Eating Disorder Treatment
A Whole-Person, Integrative Approach to Healing
At New York Integrative Psychiatry, we offer a compassionate, multidimensional approach to treating eating disorders—
— one that honors the emotional, neurobiological, and relational complexity of these conditions.
Eating disorders—including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating patterns—are not simply about food or body image.
These conditions often emerge as adaptive responses to emotional pain, trauma, or unmet needs for control, safety, or connection. For many individuals, eating behaviors become a way of managing intolerable internal states, even as they lead to profound psychological and physical distress.
Conventional treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), nutritional counseling, and psychiatric medication, play an important role in recovery. However, many people continue to struggle with persistent symptoms or relapse, even after receiving standard care.
Our integrative approach to eating disorder treatment
We understand recovery as a layered and non-linear process—one that requires deep inner work, attuned therapeutic relationships, and an approach that is responsive to the full spectrum of a person’s needs.
Our care model integrates evidence-based psychotherapy, somatic and lifestyle interventions, and, when appropriate, innovative tools such as ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), to support healing that is both sustainable and transformative.
Key elements of our eating disorder treatment include:
-
We provide a therapeutic space for exploring the underlying emotional and relational patterns that contribute to disordered eating. Modalities may include psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based approaches, and trauma-informed care.
-
Treatment often incorporates somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, nutrition-informed support, and lifestyle interventions to help restore balance across mind and body.
-
Our clinicians work closely with referring therapists, dietitians, and other medical providers to ensure an integrated and cohesive care experience.
-
For individuals with entrenched symptoms or treatment resistance, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may provide a powerful opportunity to interrupt rigid patterns of thought, reduce self-criticism, and increase emotional flexibility. KAP can facilitate profound insights and open pathways to healing when traditional therapies alone have not been sufficient.
-
No two individuals experience an eating disorder in the same way. We tailor each treatment plan to the person’s unique history, strengths, challenges, and goals, and adjust our approach as healing unfolds.
