Ketamine Services

Ketamine serves as a catalyst for healing

At New York Integrative Psychiatry, we see ketamine as a valuable tool that can support symptom relief and act as a catalyst for change on multiple levels—biological, emotional, psychological, behavioral, and relational. Ketamine-assisted therapy (KAP) is gaining recognition as a promising option for conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. When used with care and intention—through the lens of set, setting, and support—it can open the door to meaningful and lasting change.

Our team has specialized training in psychedelic-assisted therapy and years of experience working together. We’ve seen how ketamine can ease suffering and create space for deep emotional growth. With care, curiosity, and respect for each person’s process, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has been used safely in surgical and emergency medicine for decades. In recent years, it has gained recognition for its effectiveness in treating mental health conditions—especially when other treatments haven’t provided relief.

Research increasingly supports ketamine’s use for depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, and more. It works by affecting the brain’s glutamate system and enhancing neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new connections. This creates a window of opportunity for positive shifts in mood, thinking, and behavior, helping people break out of rigid patterns and move toward meaningful change.

The science behind ketamine

  • Ketamine works differently from most antidepressants—it affects a brain chemical called glutamate, which plays a key role in mood, learning, and memory. By stimulating glutamate and increasing a growth factor in the brain known as BDNF, ketamine enhances neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new and healthier connections. This helps interrupt stuck thought patterns and creates space for change. While researchers are still studying its full effects, ketamine has shown promising results across a range of mental health conditions.

Meet the team

At New York Integrative Psychiatry, each member of our team is highly trained and experienced in working with ketamine including receiving additional certification through the Institute for Integrative Psychiatry. Ben Medrano, our Medical Director, has over 5 years experience working with ketamine both in private practice and as the medical director for Field Trip Health and Nue.Life.

Our approach to ketamine

We see ketamine as a tool that works on many levels—neurobiological, emotional, and relational. When combined with psychotherapy, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers a novel and potentially transformative approach to healing. KAP can help address the root causes of a person’s symptoms, including challenging thought patterns and behavioral cycles. It works by engaging the brain’s neuroplasticity, easing emotional pain, and creating space for deeper therapeutic insight. Dosing is individualized and adjusted based on each person’s sensitivity, response to treatment, and personal preferences.
